The No. 1-ranked Florida softball team began the 2009 season with a 3-0 win against the Baylor Bears at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium in front of 864 on a chilly Friday night.
Senior All-American pitcher Stacey Nelson notched her first win of the season after throwing a shutout and allowing only one walk and six hits while striking out six batters.
Sophomore right fielder Kelsey Bruder hit a solo home run in the fourth inning for the only RBI of the game. She also had a single in the game.
The Gators scored two runs on passed balls in the second and third innings.
Sophomore Tiffany DeFelice hit a single. Aja Paculba walked twice and had a stolen base.
Senior Kristina Hilberth and freshman pinch-runner Michelle Moultrie each stole a base.
