The 2009 UF baseball season is under way. The Gators jumped out to a 1-0 record by topping Louisville 6-3 on a cold Friday night at McKethan Stadium behind strong pitching from senior started Patrick Keating and junior reliever Billy Bullock.
Sixth-year senior Brandon McArthur drove in two runs with a first-inning triple to give the Gators a lead they would not relinquish. It was the fourth consecutive opening night game in which McArthur had a hit, and the fifth in which he reached base,
Keating gave the Gators six strong innings, striking out seven batters and not allowing any walks. Keating gave up four hits and two earned runs in the win.
Bullock recorded a save by pitching two scoreless innings in relief.
UF men's basketball coach Billy Donovan threw out the first pitch before the game.
