Photo Gallery: UF men's basketball vs. Butler, NCAA Elite 8, 3/26/11 : Photos by Matt Tripp NEW ORLEANS — The Florida men's basketball team's season came to and end in the NCAA Southeast Regional Final on Saturday at the New Orleans Arena after a 74-71 overtime loss to Butler in the Elite 8. The Gators finished the season 29-8 while Butler improved to 27-9. UF was led by senior center Vernon Macklin's 25 points on 11-of-14 shooting. Senior forward Alex Tyus led the Gators with 10 rebounds.

Photo Gallery: UF men's basketball vs. BYU, NCAA Sweet 16, 3/24/11 : NEW ORLEANS — The Florida men's basketball team advanced to the Southeast Region championship with an 83-74 win against BYU in the Sweet 16 Thursday night at the New Orleans Arena. A year after losing to the Cougars in double overtime in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Florida outscored BYU 15-6 in overtime to advance to the Elite Eight for the third time in six seasons. The Gators scored the first four points of overtime and never trailed, getting a basket from senior forward Alex Tyus to start the overtime period and then a score from Kenny Boynton. Tyus and Boynton both played starring roles Thursday – Tyus for his 19 points and career-high 17 rebounds, and Boynton for his dogged pursuit of BYU star Jimmer Fredette all night. Fredette scored a game-high 32 points, but he made just 11 of 29 shots and missed 12 of his 15 three-point attempts.

Photo Gallery: UF men's basketball vs. Vanderbilt, SEC Tournament, 3/12/11 : ATLANTA — The Florida men's basketball team advanced to the championship game of the SEC tournament after defeating the Vanderbilt Commodores 77-66 in the semifinals at the Georgia Dome on Saturday. Florida sophomore Kenny Boynton led the Gators with 24 points. UF trailed by as much as 12 points, but timely shooting and strong defense boosted the Gators' comeback in the second half.

Photo Gallery: UF men's basketball vs. Tennessee, SEC Tournament, 3/11/11 : ATLANTA — The Florida men's basketball team entered the SEC Tournament as the top-seeded team after winning the regular season championship. On Friday at the Georgia Dome, the Gators eliminated the Tennessee Volunteers with a 85-74 victory. Florida (25-6, 13-3 SEC) had five players finish with double-digit scoring and shot 82.4% from the field in the second half.

Photo Gallery: UF Women's Basketball vs. Alabama, 1/27/11 : Florida’s Jaterra Bonds and Jennifer George each scored a team-high 12 points and the Gators returned to their winning ways Thursday by holding off Alabama, 70-64, in the Stephen C. O’Connell Center. The Gators (13-9, 3-5 Southeastern Conference) used a balanced offensive output that featured seven players who scored seven or more points apiece in the game. The Gators shot 39.7 percent (25-of-63) from the floor in the game, including an impressive 50 percent (13-of-26) shooting performance from the field in the final period. Alabama shot 33.3 percent (24-of-72), but was limited to just 28.6 percent (10-of-35) from the floor in the second half. Florida, which trailed by two points at halftime and was down by as many as six points in the game, rallied for its third win this season when trailing at intermission. Thursday’s game marked the 13th time in 22 games this season that the Gators had a game decided by 10 or fewer points. Florida freshman guard Jaterra Bonds scored 12 points and brought down a team-high eight rebounds, which tied her career high on the boards. UF sophomore forward Jennifer George added 12 points and brought down five rebounds in the winning effort. The Gators held the rebounding advantage 52-41, improving to 12-4 this season when winning the battle of the boards. Florida was relentless on the offensive glass, outscoring the Crimson Tide 22-9 in second-chance points. Junior forward Ndidi Madu tallied nine points and seven rebounds in 22 minutes of action, while junior guard Lanita Bartley scored nine points and dished out a game-high five assists. Junior guard Deana Allen also added nine points to go along with seven boards in 20 minutes of play.

Photo Gallery: UF Men's Basketball vs. Arkansas, 1/22/11 : The Gators allowed the Razorbacks to get the first bucket, then went on a tear and never looked back, as Florida steamrolled Arkansas, 75-43, Saturday evening at the O’Connell Center. Sophomore Kenny Boynton scored 20 points, while seniors Vernon Macklin and Alex Tyus each contributed 13 points. Fellow senior Chandler Parsons owned the boards, contributing a career-high 15 rebounds. This was Florida’s seventh win in eight games. The Gators dominated from the opening tip, as Macklin scored the team's first eight points while also going 5-for-5 on his first five shots in the paint. Tyus continued Macklin’s streak, going 4-for-4 on his first four attempts, including six straight points with a jumper, Florida’s first dunk and a 15-foot jumper. The Gators hit 11 of their first 16 attempts, 10 of which were in the paint. Florida made smart decisions around the hoop and cleaned up their first half play, only committing two turnovers in the first half after nine in the first 20 minutes against Auburn. The Gators’ defense was even more impressive, as the Orange and Blue held their second-straight opponent to fewer than 50 points. The Razorbacks shot 30 percent from the field, missing their first 10 shots from 3-point range and struggling in the paint. Florida held Arkansas’ Rotnei Clarke, one of the best shooters in the league, to 0-for-3, including 0-for-1 behind the arch. Before tonight, Clarke was third in the SEC in 3-point field goals made.
