Photo Gallery: UF Men's Basketball vs. Georgia Southern, 11/18/09 : Freshman Kenny Boynton scored a game-high 22 points and junior Chandler  Parsons recorded his third career double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds as Florida overcame a slow start to beat Georgia Southern 69-49 Wednesday night in the Stephen C. O’Connell Center to open the 2009 Legends Classic.

Florida struggled in the first half, shooting 26 percent from the floor and missing all nine shots from 3-point range. The Gators led 26-25 at halftime despite 10 turnovers and two assists.

Senior Dan Werner made a layup with 14:53 remaining in the game to cap a 12-0 run that gave the Gators a 38-30 lead that they never relinquished. UF bounced back with a considerably better effort in the second half, scoring 43 points on nearly 50-percent shooting. They also had eight assists to just three turnovers in the second half.

Redshirt junior Vernon Macklin chipped in 15 points and seven boards for the Gators (2-0). Sophomore Erving Walker added nine points and six assists.

Rory Spencer led the Eagles (1-2) with 13 points.

The win marks the first time since the 1949-50 season that Florida has held each of their first two opponents under 50 points, holding Stetson to 46 points in the 2009 season-opener.

Photo Gallery: UF Men's Basketball vs. Stetson, 11/15/09 : The Florida men’s basketball team (1-0) opened the 2009 season with a 74-46 victory over Stetson (1-1) on Sunday at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center. Junior forward Chandler Parsons scored 14 points and junior forward Alex Tyus added 12 points and 13 rebounds in the win.

The Gators have won 19-straight season openers and are 14-0 in opening games under head coach Billy Donovan.

Junior center Vernon Macklin tallied eight rebounds on the night, adding 13 points and a team-high three blocks. Sophomore guard Erving Walker led the team in assists with three and was four-of-nine from the field for eight points. Walker and sophomore guard Ray Shipman had two steals a piece. Shipman had five points. Freshman guard Kenny Boynton tallied 12 points (five-of-11 from the field), two rebounds and two assists.

Photo Gallery: UF Women's Basketball vs. Stetson, 11/14/09 : Playing their first games in Florida uniforms, freshman Jennifer George and sophomore Jordan Jones combined for 38 points to direct the Gators to an 85-63 season-opening win against in-state foe Stetson on Saturday in the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.

The Gators (1-0), who won their 17th consecutive non-conference home game, shot 50 percent (33-of-66) from the field in the game, making seven 3-pointers, and out-rebounding the Hatters (0-1), 35-30. Florida came up with 14 steals in the game.

George turned in the third-best offensive performance by a Gator in her collegiate debut, finishing with a game-high 21 points, including 7-of-9 from the floor to complement five offensive rebounds in just 16 minutes of play. Jones, playing her first collegiate game in 601 days after transferring to Florida from South Carolina, tallied 17 points – including three 3-pointers - to go along with a game-high five assists and two steals.

Senior forward Sharielle Smith finished just shy of her third career double-double, tallying nine points and a team-high nine rebounds. Senior guard Steffi Sorensen, who made her team-high 32nd consecutive start, tallied eight points, six rebounds and came up with a career-high six steals.

Photo Gallery: UF Men's basketball vs. Webber International, 11/9/09 : The University of Florida men’s basketball team defeated the Webber International Warriors, 104-53, on Monday night at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center in their final tune-up for the 2009-10 season. The Gators were led by their freshmen and sophomores, who combined to score 74 points.

Freshman Kenny Boynton led five Gators in double figures with a game-high 25 points, marking the first time since 2004 that a Gator player has scored 20 or more points in both exhibition games.

After Webber International jumped out to an early 15-11 lead at the first media timeout, the Orange and Blue stormed back to finish the first half on a 43-8 run. UF shot 56.8 percent in the first half and forced 15 Warrior turnovers.

Boynton finished with five three-pointers for the second-straight game and made 8-of-12 attempts from the free-throw line. Sophomore guard Ray Shipman finished with 16 points and grabbed five rebounds.

Junior Chandler Parsons led all players with nine rebounds and also chipped in 12 points. Sophomore Kenny Kadji scored 11 points and had eight rebounds in just 19 minutes off the bench.

Sophomore point guard Erving Walker assisted on nine baskets, giving him 18 total in preseason action, and finished with 12 points of his own. Freshman forward Erik Murphy played solid off the bench with eight points, four rebounds and a game-high six steals.

Photo Gallery: UF men's basketball vs. St. Leo, 11/2/09 : The University of Florida men’s basketball team defeated Saint Leo, 95-46, in their first exhibition game of the 2009-10 season Monday night at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.

A total of four Gators scored in double figures and all 10 players that entered the game scored. Freshman guard Kenny Boynton scored the first five points of the game and led all scorers with 22 points in his first game for the Orange and Blue. He finished 5-for-9 from beyond the three-point arc and also had six rebounds and three steals.

Sophomore Erving Walker scored 16 points for Florida and added nine assists. Sophomore Ray Shipman chipped in 10 points and junior Alex Tyus had 10 points and a team-leading nine rebounds.

The freshmen and sophomores accounted for 66 of the team’s 95 points. Freshman Erik Murphy scored nine points and had six rebounds while sophomore Kenny Kadji added six points and freshman Rod Tishman had three points.

The Gators led by 31 at the half after shooting 60.0 percent from the floor (18-for-30), including 93.8 percent from the free-throw line (15-for-16). UF finished the game at 53.0 percent shooting and out-rebounded the Lions 51-38.

Florida held Saint Leo to 22.7 percent shooting (15-for-66), including suffocating defense from beyond the arc allowing only 1-for-21 (4.8 percent).
