Basketball Gallery: NIT Semifinal vs. UMass : New York -- The UF men's basketball team ended its season on Tuesday night, losing 78-66 against the UMass Minutemen at Madison Square Garden. The loss put the Gators' record at 24-12 for the season. Sophomore center Marreese Speights had 18 rebounds and 16 points in what may have been his final game as a Gator. New Jersey native Dan Werner had a large cheering section that watched him finish three assists shy of a triple-double with ten rebounds, 11 points and seven assists.

Basketball Gallery: SEC tournament vs. Alabama : Atlanta -- A Gator Country exclusive gallery of more than 230 photos from the Gators disappointing loss at the SEC tournament. The Crimson Tide rolled to a 14-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game, eventually leading 42-14 at one point. The Gators weren't able to overcome the flood and fell 80-69 in the opening round. The loss snapped Florida's streak of nine wins in the SEC tourney and 18 straight post-season wins over the past two seasons. Florida fell to 21-11 overall, losing its fourth game in a row and eighth of the past 11 games. Alabama improved to 17-15 as Mykal Riley tied an SEC Tournament record by making eight three-pointers. The Gators narrowed the lead to six points in the second half after going on a 21-2 run. Florida freshman Nick Calathes had four assists, setting the school single-season record with 193 assists, passing Ronnie Montgomery's 190 assists from the 1987-88 season. Marreese Speights led the Gators with 15 points and freshman Alex Tyus led with a career-high-tying nine rebounds.

UF Men's Basketball vs. Mississippi State, 3/1/08 : The Florida men's basketball team fell to 21-8 (8-6 SEC) when the Mississippi State Bulldogs emerged from the Stephen C. O'Connell Center with a 68-59 victory on Saturday. Several of the Gators shaved a pair of horizontal lines into the hair on the left side of their heads as a show of team unity before the game. The Gators return to the O'Connell Center on Wednesday at 9pm vs. Tennessee before closing the regular season at Lexington, Ky. on Saturday.

Men's Basketball vs. South Carolina, 2/20/08 : Billy Donovan and the Gators won their 20th game of the season for the 10th consecutive season on Wednesday night at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center when they topped South Carolina 85-82 in front of 11,798 fans. In case you missed the action, here's 150 Gator Country exclusive photos from Dave Odom's final visit to Gainesville as a college coach. Dan Werner broke out of a shooting slump, hitting 5-of-7 from the field to score 15 points. Werner sank 5-of-7 from beyond the arc to spark the Gators early in the game. Marreese Speights pulled down ten rebounds and had ten points and the Gators scored 34 points in the paint. The UF baseball team made an appearance on the court during the first half to encourage fans to attend tonight's home opener vs. Siena at 6:30pm.

UF Men's Basketball at Vanderbilt, 2/16/08 : Nashville, Tenn. -- With 171 exclusive photos to look at, you'll feel as if you were sitting courtside! Only Gator Country sent a photographer to Tennessee this weekend to cover the Gators' game against Vanderbilt. Florida couldn't overcome some timely shots by the Commodores or get their own outside shots to fall during its 61-58 loss on Saturday at Memorial Gymnasium in front of 14,325 fans. Despite only making one shot from more than 5' from the basket, the Gators almost escaped with a win until a couple of costly errors occurred in the closing moments of the game. Take note of the postgame photos of Dan Werner. His left arm was gashed as he took a shot in the final seconds of the game, all in a day's work for the gritty Gators forward. Look for another gallery from the Gators' home game against South Carolina on Wednesday.

Basketball vs. LSU, 2/13/08 : The Gators played from behind all night and couldn't catch up in the end as they fell to 19-6 overall and 6-4 in SEC play after losing 85-73 to LSU on Wednesday at the O'Connell Center. Nick Calathes led the Gators with 16 points and five assists while Dan Werner grabbed nine rebounds and scored 13 points. LSU interim coach Butch Pierre won his first game against the Gators.

Women's basketball vs. Vandy, 1/31/08 : Vanderbilt surged ahead to an early lead against the Florida women's basketball team, then the Gators rallied back but fell short 66-56. Gator Country was there to provide this exclusive photo gallery from all of the action on Thursday night at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center! First-year coach Amanda Butler's team fell to 14-7 overall and 3-3 in the SEC in the loss. Marshae Dotson led the Gators with 16 points while Depree Bowden had a team-best eight rebounds. Florida shot 2-for-18 from 3-point range and 14-of-25 from the free throw line, leaving a lot of room for improvement. The good news is that the Gators have a chance at redemption when they host the LSU Tigers on Sunday at noon!

UF Men's Basketball vs. Vanderbilt, 1/27/08 : Vanderbilt ran into a buzzsaw on Sunday, catch all the action in this gallery! The Florida men's basketball team pounded the Commodores 86-64 at the O'Connell Center on Sunday to improve to 18-3 overall and 5-1 in the Southeastern Conference. The Gators' dominating performance opened eyes across the country and vaulted them to #19 in the rankings. While Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings popped Imodium pills (yes, really) on the sideline, Walter Hodge led all scorers with 19 points and Nick Calathes tallied a double-double with 15 points and ten assists. Perhaps Stallings was upset that the UF defense held his top two scorers well under their scoring averages? Shan Foster averages 20.1 points per game, but had seven. A.J. UF Men's Basketball at South Carolina, 1/23/08 : COLUMBIA, SC -- Gator Country was the only Florida publication to have a photographer on hand to cover the Gators' 73-71 win against the Gamecocks on Wednesday night at the Colonial Center. Florida improved to 17-3 overall and 4-1 in SEC play as South Carolina fell to 9-9 overall and 1-3 in the conference. Florida sophomore center Marreese Speights led the way with 22 points and 13 rebounds while freshman guard Nick Calathes had 21 points as the Gators came from behind to capture a tough road victory.
